Magnetic Stimulation for Paralytic Edema

Intervention(s)The patients with magnetic stimulation group receive magnetic stimulation in addition to usual rehabilitation, while those with sham group have Sham stimulation plus usual rehabilitation for 3 weeks. Thereafter, patients with the magnetic stimulation group receive only usual rehabilitation, and those with sham stimulation group have magnetic stimulation plus normal rehabilitation for 3 weeks.

Outcome(s)

Primary OutcomeChange in hand edema before intervention (T0 point) and 3 weeks after intervention (T1 point)
Secondary OutcomeHand edema, active and passive range of motion of fingers, upper limb motor function of the paralyzed side, muscle strength (grip and pinch strength), pain

Age minimum>= 20age old

Include criteriaPatients 20 years of age or older admitted to the Fujita Health University Hospital or the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontrogy, who satisfy both 1 and 2 below 1. Patients who have had a stroke within 90 days of onset and have paralytic edema in the paralyzed hand. 2. Patients who are in stable general condition and who gave written informed consent by patients or proxies after enough explanation to particiate the reserach.
Exclude criteria1. patients with unstable general condition, with pacemakers, who have non-removable magnetic materia near the stimulation site, who will discharge within 3 weeks, and with pregnant 2. patients who are deemed inappropriate by the principal or other investigators.
