Outcome(s)

Primary OutcomePrimary outcome: Proportion of DNAR cases among all cardiopulmonary arrest cases which are called ambulance - In this study, since it is difficult to confirm the intention of the victim, DNAR cases are defined as cases in which a representative (family member, etc.) did not request cardiopulmonary resuscitation when the emergency team arrived at the scene.
Secondary OutcomeDetails regarding DNAR applicable cases - Percentage of people (persons, family members, doctors, facility staff, etc.) with whom DNAR was discussed - Percentage of patients who indicated DNAR in writing - Percentage of people who had decided in advance how to respond in case of cardiac arrest - Details of how to respond in case of cardiac arrest (emergency request, contact with attending physician, contact with visiting nurse, contact with care manager, etc.) - Reason for emergency calls - Current outpatient medical institution type - Presence or absence of home medical intervention - Whether or not cardiac arrest was recognized at the time of emergency call

Include criteriaPatients who meet all of the following criteria are eligible. 1) Patients who call or be called ambulance within the jurisdiction of Tsukuba City Fire Department, Toride City Fire Department, and Joso Regional Municipal Affairs Association Fire Department (Tsukuba City, Joso City (Mizukaido District), Moriya City, Tsukubamirai City, Toride City) 2) Cardiac arrest when the emergency team arrived at the scene 3) 18 years or older
Exclude criteriaPatients who meet any of the following conditions will be excluded from this study. 1) If none of the following persons are present at the scene: family members and similar persons, facility staff, and other persons in a position to discuss about emergency treatment with the patient. 2) If the applicant or his/her legal guardian requests refusal to participate in the research
