Effects of increasing the amount of practice in gait practice with long-limb orthosis for severe hemiplegic patients with acute stroke.

Intervention(s)The intervention group will receive 3 units of the usual physical therapy interventions (joint range of motion exercises, muscle strengthening exercises, basic movement exercises, and gait exercises) plus 1 unit of standing and gait exercises using KAFO among the 4 units of physical therapy interventions. The control group will also receive 3 units of usual physical therapy intervention and 1 unit of basic movement practice within the 4 units of physical therapy intervention. The intervention period for both groups will be 2 weeks, with a minimum of 5 days per week.

Include criteriaFifty patients with severe hemiplegia due to acute stroke were selected for the study. Selection criteria were initial FIM motor score of 38 or less, and patients who were practicing gait using KAFO in the rehabilitation setting.
Exclude criteriaExclusion criteria were serious orthopedic lower limb disease, bilateral lesions, unstable general condition with difficulty in standing and walking, parkinsonism, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and subdural hematoma.
